161 Malaysian Police & Family Members Have Tested Positive for COVID-19

According to The Star, Bukit Aman Management Department director confirmed that a total of 161 police personnel and their family members have tested positive for COVID-19.

Comm Datuk Ramli Din ensured that those infected have been sent to hospitals for further treatment. He said they comprised 17 senior officers, 91 personnel, 5 civilian personnel and 48 family members.

It was also confirmed that 2,012 police officers and personnel had been quarantined which includes 292 senior officers, 1,310 personnel, 85 civilian personnel and 325 family members.

“We are constantly monitoring the situation as the safety of our personnel is a priority,” he said yesterday.

Comm Ramli said the fight against COVID-19 is far from over and it takes all parties to play their part to ensure the chain of infections is broken.

“Police officers and personnel along with other authorities are on the frontlines, be it part of the compliance operation task force or manning roadblocks. We hope the public will practice self-control and stay vigilant,” he urged.

Regarding the number of COVID-19 positive cases, Malaysia reached a record high of 1,228 new cases just last Saturday (24 Oct). Selangor, Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Sabah have since been placed under the conditional movement control order (MCO) while certain localities with a high number of infections have been placed under an enhanced MCO.
