Anwar Ibrahim Claims 120 MPs Support Him & That The Agong Will Meet With Party Leaders

According to Berita Harian, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met the King and gave him the number of MPs whom he claimed support him to be the next prime minister, but he did not give the names to verify his claim.

Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said that the King had therefore advised the PKR president to follow and respect the legal process, as stated in the Federal Constitution.

“Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had an audience with the Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Istana Negara at 11am this morning (13 Oct)… During the audience which lasted 25 minutes just now, Anwar had presented the total number of Dewan Rakyat members whom he claimed supported him.

However, he did not present the list of names of the Dewan Rakyat members to support his claim. Therefore, Sultan Abdullah had advised Anwar to follow and respect the legal process as stated in the Federal Constitution,” said Fadil in a statement today.

At a live press conference at 2pm today, Anwar said, “It’s more than 120. But because the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will summon the heads of parties, therefore it is rational for us to be patient and give the King space to decide… I urge the people and all politicians regardless of party and ideology to be patient.

Let’s leave it up to the wisdom of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to make the best decision for the future of the country”.

Anwar also mentioned that there is no “personal vendetta” against any individuals if and when he forms the government. He also denied cutting any deals with any MPs who are currently facing criminal charges to get the numbers needed to form this new government.

My analysis is that Anwar got played by the Agong. Per Anwar and Zahid, we know that if MPs defect to Anwar, they are doing so as “individual” MPs — but the Anwar said the YDPA will now interview *party leaders*.

As of now, the Perikatan Nasional government currently rules on slim a two-seat majority with 113 out of the 222 MPs. Pakatan Harapan Plus, on the other hand, has 108 MPs, following the death of former law minister, Parti Warisan Sabah Batu Sapi MP Datuk Liew Vui Keong.

At around 2.43pm today, UMNO veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah was seen leaving Istana Negara in a Mercedes S-Class. Media personnel were reportedly shocked to spot him and UMNO persident Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he was unaware that Tengku Razaleigh had met with the Agong today.
