If The Beirut Blast Happened In KL, This Is What It Would Have Looked Like

Following the tragedy of the Beirut Explosion on August 4, numerous shocking images and videos have been uploaded to social media and on various news sites depicting the sheer scale of damage inflicted towards the city.

According to BBC, the blasts destroyed the whole dockside area, creating a crater approximately 140 metres wide, which was then flooded with seawater. The blasts were so loud that it could be heard in Cyprus which is about 200km (125 miles) across the Mediterranean sea, leaving at least 137 people dead and 5,000 more severely injured.

The cause of the explosion in Beirut was allegedly, according to Lebanon’s President, Michel Aoun, correlated to an estimated 2,750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate unsafely stored at a warehouse.

The Beirut Blast was so catastrophic that it left a lot of people curious towards the sheer scale of its destruction. Many netizens started to compare the damage of the explosions in major cities like New York and London.

Twitter user, @aizad_z even did a comparison for Malaysia if the explosion were to happen right in the middle of Kuala Lumpur.

In the image, maximum damage would have occurred in towns near Kuala Lumpur whereas mild damage would be inflicted on towns away from the capital.

Some netizens had even expressed their concerns in the comments if the damage of the Beirut Blast were to happen in other states in Malaysia.

There’s no denying that Lebanon has suffered greatly due to this explosion, not to mention there’s still an active pandemic deteriorating the already dire situation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the tragedy and we hope that everything will be resolved soon.
