Malaysians are currently feeling the heat with the hot spell that’s upon us! According to The Star, Malaysia is expected to experience hot and dry weather with less rainfall until October, says Deputy Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, Minister Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis.

“We expect to experience a shortage of rainfall with warmer and drier weather this year without the El Nino and La Nina phenomena until October, ” she said at the annual meeting in Brunei to monitor cross-border haze involving four other ASEAN countries, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.

The initiative to address the ASEAN haze problem began following a serious episode of pollution in 1997 that led to the ASEAN Convention on cross-border haze signed by 10 countries in Kuala Lumpur on June 10, 2002.

Isnaraissah said the five countries involved had presented measures taken to address fires and haze in their respective countries. So, hopefully we don’t have to deal with any haze on top of this tiring weather.

It’s a cause for concern as the hot weather poses a health hazard especially to the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses.

However, there’s no need to lose your cool in the event the mercury hits higher temperatures. Just remember these six tips: Stay hydrated, limit your outdoor activities, wear light-weight clothing, wear sunblock, stay in the shade from 11 am to 3 pm, and lastly, keep your curtains or blinds closed!

Stay cool everyone…
