It seems like David Benioff and D.B Weiss, the writers of the show, really said, “Yeet!” and threw all character development out the window with the second to last episode of the penultimate season of Game of Thrones. As a massive fan and loyal follower of the series, I was extremely disappointed by the events that unfolded in Season 8 Episode 5 titled, ‘The Bells’. Here is a visual representation of my emotions…

I sat down at my desk and made this meme. That’s how upset I am

Despite my brewing emotions, I will refrain from any spoilers since the episode aired a day before I’ve sat down to write this article so most people probably haven’t seen it yet. However, there is one thing we can discuss which is the glaring goof that has now proven that Game of Thrones Season 8 was rushed and sloppily put together. This particular blunder is Jaime’s sudden ability to regrow a limb.

Fans were just recovering from the hilarious yet lazy mistake of leaving a Starbucks cup in Episode 4 before being hit with yet another continuity error in Episode 5. Although the first slip-up spawned funny reactions from viewers and injected a bit of humour to the experience, this recent mistake has incited a less welcoming response.

As most of you know (I assume you’re aware because why would you read this article if you’re not a GoT geek like me) in Season 3, Jaime Lannister courageously lost his hand to defend Brienne of Tarth from being raped by Roose Bolton’s men. If that sounded like gibberish to you, no worries, here’s the video so you can get the full gist…

With that said and after watching attached video, Jaime’s hand is clearly and unequivocally severed. So… how in the Lord of Light’s name can Jaime’s hand suddenly reappear in Season 8 Episode 5 while he is embracing his sister/lover, Cersei?

I know lah Jon Snow rose from the dead in Season 6 so the laws of realism don’t really apply, but this isn’t a calculated act of magic performed by the Red Priestess Melisandre, this is just a blatant goof caused by a lack of supervision on set. It really begs the question, did they stop caring? Did the writers and producers of the show decide to take a ciggy-break and just leave the camera running? For a show that has been building up to an epic conclusion, Season 8 is so far messy, lazy and disjointed.

Now, we’re all just awaiting the final episode to see who claims the Iron Throne so we can get it over with. At this point, it would take a miracle for the show to redeem itself after the disappointing battle with the White Walkers and the numerous failed character arcs. I guess this is what happens when the writers needed to scramble for ideas after the original creator, George R.R. Martin took a hiatus with his book series. Furthermore, the entire season finale was filmed in a span of (drumroll please) 8 months! No wonder lah…

Well, just know that I’m holding my breath until next Monday and if things spiral further into madness, it will permanently damage my huge, throbbing love for the series.

Please don’t break my heart, Benioff and Weiss… Until then..
