CULTURAL SIGNIFIERS: Farid Zulkarnain is Hardcore

The designs from Farid—or his alias Red Colour—are inspired by his love of rock and metal music and playing video games, so there’s the element of brash movement, be it in the dead of eyes of the humans and animals or just in the technique. As a full-time graphic artist, he provides graphic design services, specialising in t-shirts. However, hiring him doesn’t come cheap though, as it would cost USD180 or around RM300 per design. Well hey, art ain’t cheap, right? You can sometimes find his designed tees at a few underground music gigs. Besides designing, he’s also in a band called Deadly Insane with two other guys, and just like everyone else, he hopes his band will receive wider recognition and be successful someday soon.
