Supporting Local Heroes: 5 Local Food Vendors Defying The GVF 2023 Cancellation Fallout
The cancellation of Good Vibes Festival 2023 left a trail of challenges for numerous local vendors who had eagerly prepared to participate in the event. Despite the setback, the spirit of resilience and determination has shone through as these vendors have taken special efforts to overcome the unexpected hurdles. In this listicle, we showcase five of our favourite vendors who have exemplified the true meaning of perseverance and community spirit during these trying times.

myBurgerLab was among the first local business who turned adversity into opportunity by launching an innovative virtual food fest. By harnessing the power of social media, they managed to not only form an effective call to action to convince netizens to support them during a difficult time, but also published an IG post highlighting other vendors affected by the incident.
This paved the path for the other vendors to promote and hold their own events and initiatives to cover their losses as much as possible. Truly inspiring stuff!

myBurgerLab held a food stall in collaboration with @flaaahflaaahflaaah at Fourpoints Chinatown yesterday, and proudly announced that none of the food went to waste.
“Whatever that needs to be donated has been donated. Whatever that can be saved has been safely repurposed. We are also seeing an overwhelming turn up in our stores since yesterday. What else can we say other than that we love you all so much and we are ever so grateful,” they wrote on Instagram.

Their pop-up event might be over, but supporting such a thoughtful and community-driven establishment is always a good idea… Especially when their burgers look like that.
NOMMS Fried Chicken

In an effort to minimise food wastage, NOMMS Fried Chicken, which specialises in extra juicy ‘Pressure Fried Fried Chicken’ announced a stock clearance online, selling all the food that was prepared for GVF at RM 10 only.

With about 1300 portions in stock, NOMMS also reduced their prices even further once their limited servings of garlic butter herb rice and coleslaw were sold out – so it’s no shocker that their GVF food stock was successfully cleared, to the point where they didn’t have enough to serve all the people who’d come to support them.
(If you were one of them, make sure to shoot NOMMS a DM so they can make it up to you!)

This well-loved Japanese restaurant initiated a similar offer to prevent food wastage and appease disappointed ticket-holders.
Through an IG post, Kingu Kongu invited them to drop by the restaurant to claim a free chicken karaage that was exclusively created for the event, with a minimum purchase of RM50.

Coincidentally, the restaurant also boasts new yummy additions to their menu. So if you’re looking for a way to boost your taste buds with some authentic umami Japanese flavours while you’re out supporting the affected vendors, this one’s for you!

Sausage Sizzle was another vendor to voice immense support towards the community of local business who were negatively impacted by the festival’s abrupt cancellation – and their efforts to bounce back from their monetary losses have yet to commence.

If you missed the chance to attend the pop ups and special clearances held over the weekend, fret not, Sausage Sizzle has saved their major stock clearance for this coming weekend at Riuh KKB, from July 28 to July 30.
These vendors are a testament to the spirit of ingenuity and community support that has emerged from the unfortunate cancellation of Good Vibes Festival 2023. As we applaud their resilience, let us also remember that there are many more vendors who need our support during these challenging times. You can check out the list of them here.
By standing together as a community, we can help rebuild the dreams of these local entrepreneurs and artists, ensuring that the ‘good vibes’ continue to reverberate throughout our city.
