14-Year-Old Sheds Over 100kg After Going Viral 5 Years Ago For Being ‘The World’s Fattest Boy’
After 9 years of over-feeding their son, Ade and Rokayah Soemantri knew that they had to take drastic measures to secure Arya Permana’s future.
Known as the world’s fattest boy, Arya was 186kg when he was only 10 years old. Addicted to junk food and capable of eating meals that could feed two grown adults for an entire day, the young teen was leading an unhealthy life that was debilitating him from regular activities.
The Indonesian boy could not even walk without getting breathless let alone get himself to school or to see his friends. Not being able to shower properly, he has to bathe in a pool outside his house. Normal clothes don’t even fit him and he has to wear a sarong.
After recognising Arya’s fatal future if he continues his dire eating habits, Dr Handi Wing decided to give the teen a five-hour gastric sleeve operation, making him the youngest person in the world to undergo this surgery. Essentially, his stomach was reduced to 30% of its original size in order to lessen his appetite.
Fortunately, he lost 30kg after the operation and continues to shed the weight even now.
At the age of 14, Arya now weighs 82kg, losing more than 100kg in the span of 5 years.
A complete contrast from his younger self, the hopeful teen now bikes 3km every day, plays sports, rides motorcycles and can even climb trees.
The happiest news for both Arya and his parents is that he was finally able to attend school.
He cites good exercise, healthier eating habits and consistent sleep schedule for his successful weight loss journey. His habits now are worlds apart from what he previously did. According to him,
“In the past, from 2015 to 2016 I slept at 4am and would wake up at 3pm now I sleep at 10pm. I only ate instant noodles and packaged drinks. I very rarely eat white rice. Now the intention is to lose weight by dieting and exercise.”
The hard work has definitely paid off. Now, he is able to live a healthier and more fulfilling life.
