Shawn Yue’s Collaboration with Timberland is Absolute Madness

The collaboration between Timberland and Madness is a match made in streetwear heaven.

To the uninitiated, Madness (MDNS) was founded by Shawn Yue, a prominent figure within the streetwear circle, who is also responsible for the birth of the Common Sense (CMSS) brand. Both units have established themselves as leading brands in the community, and have been involved in various collaborations with Vans, A Bathing Ape, New Balance, Neighborhood, and more.

In short, Shawn knows how to get things done.

Both brands are associated with producing quality products as well as prioritising great attention to detail, and their first venture together does not disappoint. The collection consists of a 6in Gore-Tex® Fabric/Leather Boot, a Gore-Tex® Cruiser Jacket, and a Down jacket, all of which were designed by Shawn Yue.

First, take a look at the boots below:

As seen above, Shawn Yue reworked Timberland’s iconic Yellow Boot by giving it a darker treatment to reflect his own aesthetics. His take on it was to add his personal footwear preference into its design; he wanted it to appear rugged and functional as per the typical boot silhouette, but also to be as lightweight as sneakers.

To execute his vision, the boots — named TYPE-MD01 — were constructed using mixed materials like water resistant nylon and premium suede leather. On top of that, it’s also engineered with the GORE-TEX® Performance Comfort and Vibram® Morflex™ wedge outsole, which are fancier terms to describe the boots’ breathability, climate comfort, and its anti-slippery function.

If functionality isn’t a priority for your shoes though, buy them for the shade that they come in. We won’t judge you. That blue is gorgeous. Check ‘em out below:

Next up we have its apparels and accessories:

The aesthetic focus on these items are military-esque, and made for someone who spends a lot of their time outdoors. Or at least they look like they would — sitting at an outdoor café counts too, right?

The GORE-TEX® Cruiser Jacket is essentially a contemporary version of the classic U.S. military field coat — the M-65 field coat — it features a hooded rainwear, whereas the Bear Head Down jacket is made of a woven baffle fabric and due to its three-dimensional construction, it allows for more air, better insulation, and ultimately, more warmth. These pieces make for modern day essentials for outdoor activities, and great pieces to have for the office if the air conditioning makes your working space feel like a freezer.
