Molek FMZouk 5th Anniversary @ Zouk
It’s hard to believe that it was just merely 5 years ago that Zouk Club, KL opened its doors to the city’s party population. Celebrating half a decade of excessive fun, Zouk threw a Fantasia-themed party recently to thank its loyal clubbers.
The main entrance was packed when JUICE got there with clubbers in assorted colours. Fashionistas came out in full force as a cash prize of RM 1,000 was to be awarded to that special clubber that caught the eye of local style icon Cris Yong. Sparing no cost at creating an other-worldly atmosphere, props were displayed everywhere and we really felt like Alice in Wonderland with people dressed up as odd looking mushrooms, and dancers in eerie out-of-this-worldly garb.
In the main room, a birthday cake was revealed and after a short speech by Head of Marketing and Communications, Adam Mathews, a bottle of champagne was uncorked by Executive Director, Cher Ng and Acting Managing Director, Anthony Wong. As the toast was made, confetti fluttered down, blanketing the crowd. Electro protagonists Lapsap zapped up the music and the party resumed.
All rooms at Zouk that night were left open to guests without cover. We took the opportunity to room hop, starting with our familiar stomping ground, Barsonic. After participating in some indie karaoke with a couple of bouncers, Twilight Action Girl shook things up with their usual dance rock mashings. It wasn’t long before the room was packed with regular TAGers.
We glided down the stairs and moved on to Phuture. Zouk’s newest room was booming with r ‘n’ b courtesy of DJs Goldfish, Luqe and Ray Rox. Special guest MC Point Blanc came on later and spilt his mean rhymes all over us.
Half a glass away was Velvet Underground. Probably the most well-known room in Zouk, we were reacquainted with many old friends as DJs Leonard T and Alex entertained us with some retro tunes.
We capped the night off like the bluebloods we were at Aristo. Zouk’s most posh room was graced by French DJ Gregoire Pagnoux and local DJ Shazz. The duo played a mix of easy house that left us tingling for more.
5 years and going strong, Zouk has maintained its ability to attract KL’s party crowd by constantly reinventing itself while staying true to the restless spirit of its clubbers. And to that we raise our glasses! J
