YZ International Birthday Blowout @ Zouk

It was literally Bangkok invasion last Thursday in town when Bangkok Invaders, Thaitainium and Money Exchange Movement. KL, Bangkok, Singapore and Houston, Texas hip hop love was in the house during the YZ International Birthday Blowout at Zouk’s 4Play Thursday just last week. Straight up Bum Squad Asia-style. JUICE was decked in Nike and ready to celebrate the artist management’s 10 years.

It was the night for Yaniz, the gangsta mama of YZ International, responsible for Missy Elliott in KL, that Too Phat collabo with Warren G, and making Pop Shuvit an international act. You can’t f*ck with Yaniz and you don’t wanna. Her knowledge from working in the scene in the States was her advantage when she came back to KL. Everyone was looking up to her and things definitely looked up for her. She roped in the best acts under her wings. Joe Flizzow, Pop Shuvit and Stylustiks are amongst some of the acts rolling with YZ International. It was also through her love that JUICE had a great time Jakarta with Joe Flizzy and DJ Cza.

That night, DJayBuddah Love was already hitting the decks when we got there. We went to wish Yaniz a happy birthday and saw a lot of familiar faces, especially the Kartel DJs. Present were MizzNina, DJ Goldfish, DJ T-Bone, DJ Biggie, MC Syze, DJ Uno, DJ Cza, DJ Fuzz, Edwin Raj of They Will Kill Us All, DJ Iman, Crisco Kidd from Houston, Singapore’s Sheikh Haikel and a whole lotta others. They were all there to show love to Yaniz, and of course party it down with BKK’s finest.

Our own hip hop President, Joe Flizzow took the role of event host for the YZ International Birthday Blowout that Thursday night. Everyone’s always excited when Joe’s on stage. First up was Money Exchange Movement’s Way and Dandee who took on the Zouk stage with their Bangkok swagger. Thaitainium added to the hoopla and tore up the stage right after, and were joined by the Flizzow man himself on ‘Do It Big’.

It was a night of heavy energy, despite the occasional interweaving of electro sounds into the night’s hip hop, which didn’t impress us much. The clubbers were there for hip hop, so that’s what a DJ should stick to. Besides those few minutes, the Bangkok boys were killin’ the dancefloor. Big ups to the b-boys with their dope stunts on stage. Maybe it’s time for JUICE to work on our moves too.

The night ended with DJ Ono bringing Bangkok hip hop a notch up. He ended the night with Robin Thicke’s ‘Lost Without You’, we said our goodbyes to the Bangkok boys and goodnights to YZ. JUICE had a ball and wants the Bangkok boys to come back to our decks more. Whuttup BKK and Happy Birthday YZ International. Much love!
