Green Stage
Up and coming heroes BATE took on centre stage and kicked things off. It seemed so right to witness the duo (named Best New DJ by JUICE last year) finally hit the night off with a bang to the tens of thousands roaring through the wind, it was a long time coming. Opening slots are always a tough spot to pull off, but BATE mercilessly killed it with their disco-esque inspired sounds, heating up the crowd to the perfect temperature for the next act. Fresh from previewing themselves at our Thirst x JUICE Pre Party Series in Penang, local legends Goldfish & Blink brought it up to party rocking level, delivering nothing less than what was expected. With one hour to electrify the joint, the early birds pumped and bumped to their intense mix teasing the massive horde outside with what they were missing.

It was 8.40pm and the laid-back-Malaysian-timing-condoning crowd realised what was up. In the spur of their sudden consciousness, everybody rushed through a number of security stops like running zombies to get to the stage. With people still rolling in and music in the distance, everyone knew Nervo was on. The enchanting Australian twins seemed like a dream to watch with their graceful contrast of interpretive dance and hypnotising rhythms. The crowd continued to jump along and every turn looked like a tidal wave of an insane asylum. The madness kept going and Nervo kept giving; one hour had never passed us that fast before.

As the impressively well timed schedule progressed, Thirst wanted its moment to shine in the spotlight too. Boom! Fireworks blasted away, surprising the already hyped up sea of congregation along with wild flying laser visuals. It was definitely a feast for the eyes and perhaps a good break from the almost blinding light works coming off from the stage. This was the Heineken Green Moment.

Four hours had come and gone, and the Dutch House Grand Master, Afrojack led the way with electro house bursting from the stereo; and the shuffling began. Though the crowd was a little tired from the jumping and flailing around, the sitters still kept going while they head banged their way through the set.

Finally, the crowd screamed and jumped to their feet as David Guetta turned on his ‘F**k Me, I’m Famous’ mode and owned the deck with Blur’s ‘Song 2’. The 46-year old Frenchman gave the spin of his life while the crowd rushed back and forth, divided by the choices of which arena to attend. They popped and locked; while Guetta rocked and rolled, and the night belonged to them while the compliments of more fireworks graced the skies.

The night went by like a flash clouded with blurry memories of lost peers and hectic fun. Thanks to the undying energy of the people and the amazing chemistry of the DJs with their fans, the efforts of Heineken were not in vain, making sure the imprint of Thirst 2013 will not be forgotten. Ultimately, the dead set goal of raising the bar passed with flying colours, officially baptising 14 December 2013 with the mark of greatness.
