Technically a self-titled album, the Red Album set out to be an experimental work for LA’s consummate rock geeks. While it doesn’t step too far away from their trademark sardonic guitar-driven power pop, it does attempt to do it better. The most collaborative band effort so far, with each member getting a stab at the mic, frontman Rivers Cuomo remains the lynchpin parlaying some heartfelt shiners in ‘Heart Songs’, Cuomo’s tribute to the perfect song and ‘Thought I Knew’, which is on heavy rotation here at the JUICE office. Still you gotta hand it to ‘Pork and Beans’ Weezer’s anthem in waiting – its YouTube tribute vid is LOL hilarious.
