WATCH: The Suicide Squad New Trailer Puts Bloodsport in The Spotlight Amongst The Mayhem
The latest trailer for the R-rated supervillain film The Suicide Squad just dropped and it reveals the mayhem that the “loser, B-grade supervillains” are thrown into.
It starts with Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, who apparently put Superman in the ICU with a Kryptonite bullet, being roped into the squad by Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.
Waller explains why he’s needed to help clean up the mess of “Project Starfish”, a science project gone wrong (Starro, baby!). The trailer also reveals the lunacy and the comic bookiness of all the characters, James Gunn style.
The trailer also gives an extended look at the humanoid weasel, aptly named Weasel, who Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag says isn’t harmless, “Well, he’s not harmless. He’s killed 27 children.”
Like his ’80s nostalgia-fuelled Guardians of the Galaxy films, director James Gunn says that he drew inspiration from writer John Ostrander’s original 1980s Suicide Squad comics for his version of the film.
The Suicide Squad isn’t a direct sequel to David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad, but more of a loose-follow or a soft reboot. And in case you missed it, John Cena’s Peacemaker, who is part of the team has already gotten his own HBO Max spinoff series.
Experience the chaos when The Suicide Squad hits theatres and HBO Max on 6 August 2021.
