Last month, we got some images and a teaser for the upcoming Snake Eyes origins movie, but the new trailer drops the action bomb and the set-up for a new G.I. Joe universe.
Besides all the glorious beatdowns, the trailer shows Henry Golding’s Snake Eyes, whose birth name is still unknown, working at a fish market while doing some cage fighting on the side. Hey, in this economy even fish mongers have to moonlight as MMA fighters!
One day, an underworld organisation tasks him with executing a man who we will come to know as Storm Shadow (played by Andrew Koji). As thanks for having his back, Snake Eyes is introduced to the world of the Arashikage ninja clan.
The film also introduces core characters of the G.I. Joe Universe including Samara Weaving’s Scarlet and Úrsula Corberó’s Baroness, and teases another reptilian aka Commander Cobra and the revolution he’s bringing.
While Snake Eyes’ history has always been mysterious and classified, the new film will explore the origins and core of the character, and how a “fish boy” ends up being a superweapon.
Directed by Robert Schwentke, Snake Eyes is coming to theatres on 23 July 2021.
