Anyone in the music biz can tell you that knowledge is a commodity. Whether you’re a performer, musician, DJ, producer or stoned-out roadie, having trade secrets could mean the difference between a sold-out show and an empty auditorium. Providing a platform for sharing knowledge, Music Conference Asia (MCAsia) is an initiative aimed at raising the standards of the industry in our region. And they’ve kick started it with 2 interactive events.

The 1st event is the Digital Music Competition (DMC), which is open to all digital music enthusiasts in Asia and Australasia. DMC is split into 2 categories – producing a remix and producing a music video – for MCAsia’s theme song ‘SPARK’ produced by Canada’s DJ Preach. Contestants can download their contest pack from the MC Asia website at www.visitmcasia.com and choose to either remix or produce a music video. RM18,000 worth of cash and prizes are up for grabs and the winning remix and music video will be featured in DJ Preach’s upcoming single. Deadline for this contest is 15 October 2009, so get cracking!

The second event is titled MCAsia Music Factory ‘The Beginning’. Taking place on 21 November 2009 at KL Live Centre (formerly Ruums), this event consists of a music and mentoring workshop during the day and an appreciation party at night.

During the workshop, participants will come face-to-face with world-renowned producers and artists DJ Preach and Marcel Woods (Netherlands), and be introduced to the professional world of music production and DJing.

DJ Preach and Marcel Woods will be speaking on topics such as “DJing As A Professional Career: The Marketing Strategy” and “A&R, Artist Development and Music Label Promotions”. Then come night, it’s time to party with DJ Preach, Marcel Woods and our local talents DJ Kughen and Funkomunky.

Tickets to the MCAsia Music Factory ‘The Beginning’ are priced at RM49 (pre-sale) and RM59 (door-sale), and are available at all Axcess Tickets outlets and via www.axcess.com.my. The first 500 ticket holders to register on www.visitmcasia.com will be eligible to attend the workshop, worth USD 100 per seat, for free, strictly on a first come first serve basis.
