Viu’s ‘W: Two Worlds’ Successfully Adapts a Well-Known K-Drama for Malaysia
With the advent of the live-action versions of One Piece and The Sandman, we’ve seen a rising trend of TV show adaptations that are on par with their original counterparts. Malaysia is also part of this trend, with Viu coming up with its own series of adaptations.
Viu recently launched its Malaysian adaptation of the hit Korean drama series, W: Two Worlds, featuring a stellar line-up including Hun Haqeem, Daiyan Trisha, Faizal Hussein, Mierul Aiman, Elizabeth Tan, Tony Eusoff, and Shahkimin.
“After the success of our adaptations such as Black and She Was Pretty, we’re proud to bring a Malaysian spin to this iconic K-drama W: Two Worlds,” said Viu Malaysia Country Manager, Kingsley Warner.
“This series is not only a testament to our ambitious endeavour but also a continuation of our successful history and opportunity to captivate both loyal viewers and those who are discovering Viu’s content for the first time.”
“With this project, Viu Malaysia aims to introduce an innovative and captivating narrative that will leave a lasting impression on all audiences,” Warner adds.
W: Two Worlds reunites the talented duo of director Datuk Yusry Abdul Halim and producer Zurina Ramli for their third collaboration. The two first worked together on Viu Malaysia’s adaptation of She Was Pretty in 2022, which went on to win two national awards at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2022.
W: Two Worlds follows the story of Izara, a young doctor whose father, Omar, is the creator of the popular webtoon series, W. When Omar disappears without a trace, Izara’s search for him inexplicably transports her into the webtoon world.
She saves the life of the main character, Aliff, and she finds herself being written into the story, as the webtoon takes on a life of its own and begins to function as a distinct reality. Aliff has been hunting for the man who murdered his family 10 years ago.
The romance fantasy thriller series premiered on 30 November 2023, with two new episodes being released every Thursday.
Catch W: Two Worlds on the Viu app, which is available for free download on the App Store, Google Play, Huawei App Gallery, and selected smart TVs. Viu is also available on browsers through their official website.
