Zet Legacy is starting off the new year on the right foot with a music video for his latest single ‘Rapstar’, featuring Jin Hackman, and the listening party of his debut album Prelude 101 on Wednesday 6 January ’16 under Kelawar Records. In contrast to his single ‘Brown Boys‘, which elevated listeners with its Glo Gang-esque sinister charm, trappy beat, and downtrodden urban milieu, ‘Rapstar’ optimistically features a more laid-back style of rapping. Switching between English and Malay, the bilingual emcee raps about his ongoing quest to be the titular rap star over a simple beat that evokes feelings of nostalgia. The quirky music video – directed by every indie rapper’s favourite cheap videographer HAVERHUCK VHS (who is becoming increasingly less and less VHS) – follows suit, sweding Too Phat’s ‘Anak Ayam’ in one scene and featuring Jin rapping in the neighbourhood playground in another, complete with the homie mentioning that he agreed to the guest feature for “a damn pizza,” which was promptly hadokened into his mouth.
