With Thirst 2015 happening late this month, the dearth of festivals in Malaysia seems like it’s finally reached its end — especially with Thirst 2015 promising high-end installations and theatrical performances that’d rival international dance events. Naturally, JUICE decided to take the opportunity to speak to its local lineup — Goldfish & Blink, Xu, BATE, and Hulkas — on what exactly about DJing and playing to thousands of punters that makes it all worth it. The conclusion? The togetherness. No wonder then that Thirst appropriated the axiom “we are all stardust.” After all, Neil deGrasse Tyson once said, “We are not figuratively, but literally stardust.” Ours as well as other living things’ atoms were all made from the same ingredients that originated from the big bang. When DJs play to a big audience, looking at the crowd’s collective movement in synch to the BPM, deep in thrall to the beat, it’s almost as if dance music were the sonic expression of that sentiment.
