Portuguese street artist Vhlis and co-director José Pando Lucas have created a short film that not only advertises the artist’s work for his first solo exhibition, but it does so in a subtle way as it illustrates more of its intentions and inspiration in a format that would “be able to stand alone and breathe independently as an artwork in its own right.” The film is spliced with scenes of the artist producing his portraiture along with vignettes of everyday life in Hong Kong, with lots of contrast that demonstrates the disparity of wealth and status, the simple life of ordinary folk and the rampant life in the city. A ruminating monologue is spoken over the romantic and poetic setting that is Hong Kong.
