Fragrance ads always want to sell us some ethereal dream fantasy that is honestly unattainable, unless you have the money to fund a team to support that delusion. Carol Lim and Humberto Leon of Kenzo, however, have called on director Spike Jonze to direct a piece of kooky weirdness for the designer duo’s first fragrance – Kenzo World. Actress and former dancer Margaret Qualley stars as a socialite so bored and shackled by the oppression of riches that she decides to retaliate, or let loose, with a dance number that can be viewed as a mental breakdown. The elegant actress dances maniacally to the big beat of Sam Spiegel & Ape Drums’ ‘Mutant Brain’, as choreographed by Ryan Heffington (Sia, FKA twigs). She wildly gesticulates around the hotel, performs to a bust, theatrically fake-kills a man on the phone, unsuspectingly shoots laserbeams from her fingers, and crashes through a big eye made of flowers that represents Kenzo World.
