VIDEO: CHROMATICS’ ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Some’
It was reported not too long ago that electro-pop band CHROMATICS covered Cyndi Lauper’s classic ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ for a MANGO Fall/Winter campaign featuring British supermodels Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne. The ad was such a tease — only a verse of the song was featured, but from we heard, it was a promising cover as Ruth Radelet’s transient voice glided over some groovy rhythms and a succession of synth drums. The band will release seven versions of the single, where there are three instrumentals and four variants of the original with titles such as, ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Some’, ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Dub’, and ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Drums’. Between the full length versions that were released — ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Some’ and ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Dub’ — we prefer the former, however the two don’t really differ that from much each other. The ‘Dub’ version is much more subdued and has a hazier appeal, whereas the addition of the percussion in ‘Some’ punches up the languidness of it all. But, that’s our humble opinion…
