For those who don’t know, Gloves is the solo project of Yama Indra of Melbourne’s indie duo Damn Arms. Signed to Bang Gang 12 Inches label, Gloves has remixed for Cut Copy, Sneaky Sound System, Van She and Operator Please among others and playlisted for the likes of BBC One, Dazed & Confused, XFM and more, making him the name to watch out for in 2009.

So it was a damn big deal when he was in the city on the invite of VMD. Building on their reputation for wicked parties like WhateverKL and Bang-Mi, VMD intercepted Gloves on his South East Asia tour. Under the Gloves guise, Yama turned any and every track that passed through his hands into a disco anthem, and the floor responded with plenty of boogieing down. The brilliant visuals framing Gloves’ banging set were the work of Singapore’s Brandon Tay, who’s dope designs have appeared for Van She, Cut Copy, Architecture in Helsinki, Midnight Juggernauts and a whole lot others.

VMD returned with Nazkimo also from Down Under to hit the decks and rock the house. Bodies jammed hard to classic tunage from Madonna to the more obscure stuff. It was all dutifully lapped up, even by the unexpected appearance of the glammed up trannies who hogged the podiums all night long. Now, that’s a party!
