Various: Kitsune Maison Compilation 10: The Fireworks Issue (Kistsune Maison)
If you haven’t heard to the French/Japanese label, Kistune, you haven’t been trying hard enough. The label brings together fashion and music and frequently releases collections of both. We’ve got our hands on the 10th, the Fireworks edition, and its left stars in our eyes.
Kitsune is known for finding new sounds and cutting edge bands, and with that mentality, there’s bound to be a few misses. The big name draws live up to your expectations; with a pretty sweet remix of Two Door Cinema Club, solid new Digitalism, a new chilled out Yelle, and Flight Facilities ‘Crave You’ is just too dam sexy.
The gold lies in the surprise sleeper hits on this album. Icona Pop’s ‘Manners’ from two young Swedes, is the perfect combination of angst and sing-a-long. Is Tropical’s ‘South Pacific’ was made for a day at the beach with its chill, dreamy, and distorted vocals reminiscent of someone lost at sea. Lovers of Arcade Fire will love Clock Opera and the epic ‘Once and For All’.
Since these types of albums have been pretty much dead since the advent of CD burning, mp3s and ipods, kudos to Kitsune for keeping the compilation alive. They’ve clearly got the taste, style and suave to keep it fresh by delivering us tomorrows indie, today. Most of the time.
