Vans x Spongebob Squarepants Collection Celebrates The Colourful World of Bikini Bottom

For the generation that grew up with Spongebob Squarepants and his friends, the world of Bikini Bottom was a place of imagination and fun. In fact, it still is for many of the show’s fans.

To celebrate the beloved show, New York-based designer Sandy Liang is teaming up with Vans for a capsule collection inspired by the colourful world and characters of Bikini Bottom.

The five-piece collection includes a range of apparel and two pairs of Vans Sk8-Hi with vibrant designs showcasing Liang’s own tribute and aesthetics.

Instead of their usual outfits, the bucket hat, hoodie and t-shirt that features Spongebob and his friends Patrick, Sandy and Squidward are all wearing Liang’s own ready-to-wear line.

“I wanted to refer back to Bikini Bottom whenever possible, but also while bringing the characters more into the real world,” Liang told Teen Vogue.

“I didn’t want any of the outfits to feel too costumey and it was important that each of their outfits could be something I could see translated into a real garment,” she said.
