Vans Does the ‘Samba’ With Retro-Inspired Super Lowpro Shoes

Vans has peeled through its archives to bring us a low-profile sneaker inspired by retro runners, the Vans Super Lowpro.
The shoes follow a heritage design that draws inspiration from the sleek, low-to-the-ground profiles of ’70s runners and flats, like the Serio Style 84.
Blending history and innovation

You probably know Vans as a skateboarding brand. While it’s dominated that scene for decades, the company also briefly dipped its toes in traditional athletics.
You might not have heard of the aforementioned Serio Style 84, but its sleek design back then mirrored that of other low-profile running shoes, like the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66.

For 2025, Vans is bringing back the iconic silhouette in the form of the Super Lowpro, taking on a narrow, sleek, and low-profile form with 21st-century upgrades to keep it versatile for everyday use.
Some modern touches include a padded tongue for added comfort and support, a minimal (and breathable) lining for a barely-there feel, and Vans’ signature waffle outsole for superior grip.

It might be a daring comparison, but we’d say these are a great adidas Samba alternative, considering the similar low-profile construction of the shoes.
If we’re to nitpick, the Samba fools people into thinking it’s a regular-profile sneaker, while the Vans Super Lowpro showcases its stance loud and proud. But hey, we’re not here to pick sides!

Keeping things true to its retro inspiration, the Super Lowpro features heritage perforation details on the sides, as well as “Serio” branding on the tongue as a nod to Vans’ history.
Retailing at RM369, the shoes are available in four colours: Black, Green, Red, and White. Head to the official Vans Malaysia website to grab your pair.
