UOX Play Electro Dance @ Zouk
It was a rainy Friday, but spirits were high and so were we at the promise of the night ahead with UOX Play. JUICE headed over at Relish @ Terrace Bar for dinner and when we entered at around 9.30pm, we found hipster John Fishdot aka DJ Taufiq rendering his usual set of indie and electro pop to the hotting-up crowd. Unafraid of attention, we made our way to the front of the stage in Zouk and claimed it ours for the rest of the night.
Emcee of the night MTV VJ Denise came out glowing as she announced the first act of the night – our very own eccentric JUICE Coollist-er Arabyrd. Arabyrd performed songs that we hope will be in her soon-to-be-released album, and wowed us with her performance. She braved herself to the other side of Zouk on the table stand, and brought out a marching band with wicked drum skills to accompany her on her first single. Arabyrd’s music was dope, and she was on fire!
Up next was Bangkok’s kitsch electro group of The Diet Pills, who gave us 7 songs. Before the show, the ladies told us that this is probably their biggest show by far, and the girls, a blend of Cyndi Lauper meets Chicks on Speed, rocked it up with their brand of cuteness and energy.
While waiting on Ladytron’s Mira and Reuben to come on the decks, Zouk resident Terence C filled us in with what we miss about dance music. By the time Ladytron came on to serve us a crazy set, the dance floor was pure madness.
We danced our hearts out and left with ringing in our ears. The night was just as crazy as the previous UOX Play, but this time with a harder dance sound. UOX Play has established itself as an event not-to-be-missed.
The UOX Play Electro Dance event pumped up Zouk on February 21st. Visit www.uox.com.my and get interactive.
