Turn It Up And Then Some
JUICE took the Friday morning to meet up with Joey G before his soundcheck at Euphoria for the Chivas Chivalry event tonight. We went to his studio, Soundbox at Damansara Perdana for a little chit chat. Here’s what we found out.
They have hooked up with Speedzone Tour happening on 5 April and Turn It Up is endorsing it. They even managed to interview the headlining DJs Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules and Ricky Stone, along with their exclusive mixes for the Turn It Up show. Wicked!
For the first time ever, Turn It Up will be coming to you live at Zouk on 10 April and you know it will be massive! Joey G and DJ Gabriel will be serving up some hot tunes for you along with percussionists and maybe Poova on vocals. Right after that, Turn It Up will be celebrating their 1st ever anniversary which will be a series of 4 events at RAW. You can expect a DJ from Europe and our local guys to turn the heat up your nights. You know they throw good parties. In conjunction with Turn It Up’s one year celebration, they will have a DJ competition then with the winner getting a production course at Joey’s Soundbox studio, a chance to produce a track and of course, have the chance for it to be played on radio!
The two big boys also have a weekly half page column in Malaysian Today paper where they will update you on electronic dance music, tricks and tips on DJing, equipments, the lifestyle of clubbing and everything under the sun. Joey and Gabriel have been in the scene for oh so long, so you know their Monday column is something to look out for if you wanna get the 411 of KL’s dance music scene.
You know the boys are passionate about the scene. Here’s a little snippet of what chatty Joey has to say about Turn It Up and the dance scene in KL- “That’s what Turn It Up is- trying to create an industry because DJing is of the past, DJs in KL have come so far and everyone’s producing music right now, but no one has tapped into that. In fact, if you go into Beatport, type in DJ Gabriel, Victor G, Blastique, Glenn Tandy, Hazriq, Bobo, DJ Ndroid- they have all got track in it. Seriously, there’s a musical industry here man and what we’re trying to do is bring it up. That’s our main focus.” Word.
Besides everything listed above, they will be hooking up with labels like Love International to find out more about their artists and work as Turn It Up will eventually have a half an hour segment dedicated to locally-produced dance music to create a market for our local DJs and the scene. Turn It Up is also moving into some endorsement with Red Square’s ‘House Division’ being one of them because they believe in the night’s vision for the event, so listen up to their show on Capital FM for updates.
Phew. That’s a lot. We ain’t over yet. Keep yourself updated as we let you in on what is up with Cosmic Spacemonkeys, Bo and Reshmonu have in common. You know you want to. In the meanwhile, tune into Capital FM 88.9 for wicked tunes on Turn It Up and look out for guest DJs Zoo Brail (12 March), Koen Groeneveld (19 March) and Jessie Vorn (26 March).
