Thom and Flea Have A New Band

Yes, you heard it right. Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea are teaming up to form a new super group, which could create music history yet. Reason for the band: misery guts Thom York simply isn’t satisfied and wants to create a musical vision which will also include Joey Waronker, Mauro Refosco and Radiohead’s producer Nigel Godrich. Now we await the band’s name.

Here’s what Thom wrote on Radiohead’s Dead Airspace blog, “In the past couple of weeks I’ve been getting a band together for fun to play the Eraser stuff live and the new songs … to see if it could work!”

It is not clear yet whether they are going to create new materials or just roll with whatever is going on in that crazy mind of Thom. It has been heard in a Latitude Festival interview that British comedian Adam Buxton suggested to Thom a few names such as Mr T, Thomosexual and Yorkie Fruit and Nut Bar. Right… Not.

In August, Thom was quoted as saying that Radiohead might not release another album (gasp!)  – in order to focus on downloads (phew!). Phil Selway, Radiohead’s drummer has since gone solo and could be teaming up with Wilco’s Lisa Germano and ex-Soul Coughing’s Sebastian Steinberg. Superbands ahoy!

Our reaction is as WTF as yours. But yessur, we’re about to witness the scariest bands in history. Oh, hide your kids. By the way, what do you reckon Thom and Flea’s band name should be? Tell us!
