The Wknd Sessions Live and The Wknd Recording Fund
Music fans should be familiar with The Wknd and their stance on promoting music from Southeast Asia. Now, the online music website will soon transition their web series The Wknd Sessions to a live setting. In conjunction of Cooler Lumpur Festival starting this Friday at The Bee, Publika, The Wknd and Hotlink will launch The Wknd Sessions Live (TWSLive) to showcase the current crop of notable local acts. Each TWSLive will be held at differing venues and will feature two promising musicians to perform 45-minute sets respectively. The inaugural TWSLive will see performances from the acoustic serenading of Bil Musa and the jangly drawl of Jaggfuzzbeats.
Along with TWSLive, The Wknd Recording Fund (TWRF) — a platform for fledgling local artistes to record, produce, market, and release their material — will also be launched on the same day. The winner of TWRF will receive an immense reward; for instance, the opportunity to have their single professionally recorded, a spot on the final TWSLive performance bill, and of course, not forgetting a cash prize of RM10,000! Submissions for TWSF will begin on Friday 12 June till the end of August and ultimately, the winner will be chosen via a confluence of online voting during the whole month of September and a panel of judges. Who knows, you could join past winner The Venopian Solitude as one of the recipients of the grant.
