From Besties to Bandmates (Again)—We Got The Scoop On M2M’s Reunion

Best friends at the age of five, Marit Larsen and Marion Raven—the duo behind M2M—have reunited after almost two decades apart. And for them, the timing feels almost serendipitous.
Their long-awaited comeback took shape in the most effortless way possible: a heartfelt conversation that stretched for hours, filled with laughter, nostalgia, and the realisation that their connection had never really faded.
Of course, we had to know how that unfolded, so we sat down with the OG iconic pop girlies to find out:

“We honestly didn’t know what to expect when we met again,” Marit admitted.
“But we sat down together, and it was like no time had passed at all. We just kept talking and talking—it was really special.”
Both were surprised to learn that their music had not only endured but continued to resonate with fans worldwide. They discovered that M2M still racks up over a million monthly streams on Spotify, a fact that left them both humbled and excited. “To think that people still listen to our songs after all this time—it’s just incredible,” said Marion. “We’re so grateful, and it really made us feel like this reunion was meant to happen.”
Their comeback is also well-timed, aligning perfectly with the 25th anniversary of their debut album. “It feels like all these little signs were telling us, ‘Now is the time,’” Marit reflected. “And here we are.”

Following M2M’s disbandment in 2002, both artists embarked on solo careers, each exploring different musical directions.
Marit gravitated towards a folk and singer-songwriter style, while Marion delved into rock, embracing a darker, edgier sound. Despite these differences, their individual musical paths have evolved in ways that now complement each other once again.
“As we’ve grown as artists, our styles have actually moved a little closer together,” Marit noted. “We both love storytelling in our music, and I think that’s something we’ve always shared, even when our sounds were very different.”
Their upcoming performance will even include reworked versions of some of their solo songs, blending them into M2M’s signature sound.
“We’ve both written so much music over the years, and it’ll be exciting to bring some of that into the show,” Marion shared. “It’ll still feel like M2M, just with a little twist.”
One of the reasons M2M worked so well as a duo was their contrasting yet complementary songwriting approaches.
Marit has always started with lyrics, building the song from the story she wants to tell. “For me, the words come first,” she explained. “Once I have that, the melody follows naturally.”
On the other hand, Marion’s process is more melody-driven. “I start with a tune or even just a song title,” she said. “The title gives me a feeling, a direction, and the lyrics come later.”
This difference in creative process has always been a strength for them, creating a dynamic where they bring out the best in each other’s work. “It’s funny because we’ve always worked that way,” Marion laughed. “Even when we were teenagers, Marit would be scribbling lyrics, and I’d be humming melodies, and somehow, it all just fit together.”
As they gear up for their highly anticipated concert in Malaysia, Marit and Marion are diving back into their old songs, rediscovering the music that defined their teenage years… And some of ours, too.
“We’ve been going through the setlist, and it’s amazing how much of it we still remember,” Marit said. “It’s like muscle memory—these songs are just a part of us.”
Rehearsals with their band will begin in April, and they are preparing themselves not just musically but physically as well. “It’s a whole different energy performing on a big stage again,” Marion admitted. “We want to make sure we have the stamina to give the fans the best show possible.”
Having experienced both the highs and challenges of the music industry from a young age, Marit and Marion also had words of wisdom for aspiring artists.
Their biggest advice? Don’t rush the process.
“Take your time to find your sound,” Marit advised. “It’s so easy to feel pressured to put something out quickly, but the most important thing is to create something that truly represents you.”
Marion agreed, adding, “The industry moves fast, but your creative process doesn’t have to. Protect that time to explore, experiment, and really develop who you are as an artist.”
Despite being away for nearly two decades, M2M remains an iconic name in pop music, with a devoted fanbase that has never stopped supporting them. The overwhelming response to their reunion, especially from Malaysian fans, has been heartwarming.

“Malaysia has always been so special to us,” Marion said. “The energy, the love—it’s something we’ve never forgotten.”
Marit echoed her sentiment, saying, “Seeing how much our music still means to people is just incredible. It’s because of the fans that we’re here now, and we can’t wait to share this moment with them.”
As for new music, the duo remains open but non-committal. “Right now, we’re just focused on this reunion and the concert,” Marit explained. “But who knows? We’ll be spending a lot of time together this year, so we’ll see where that leads.”
Fans curious about new material in different languages may have to wait a little longer, as there are no current plans for M2M songs in languages other than English. However, both Marit and Marion have previously released music in Norwegian.
As they prepare to take the stage once more, M2M wants their fans to know just how much this reunion means to them.
“We can’t wait to be back in Malaysia,” Marion said. “It’s going to be such a special night, full of nostalgia, music, and hopefully a lot of singing along.”
Marit added with a smile, “We just hope everyone is ready to have an amazing time with us. We know we are!”
