The Maccabees: Wall Of Arms (Fiction)

You might remember The Maccabees from their 2007 debut Colour It In which gave us the Britpoppy single ‘Toothpaste Kisses’. Well the band has returned with a much darker sound to suit their biblical name. Partly to credit for saving The Maccabees from becoming another indie landfill band is producer Markus Dravs who previously worked on Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible. Honestly, Wall Of Arms is a great album with heartfelt lyrics and grandiose hooks, but Dravs might have over done it with the Arcade Fire influence. If you’re willing to overlook that, then this is sort of like a rocked up version of the Canadian baroque pop band.
