If this is the first time you’re hearing that Gil Scott-Heron has passed, you must have been hiding in the daylo for the past month. Still don’t know who he is? Shame on you.

Musician, poet, author and songwriter, Scott-Heron practically breathed music since the early 50s. His collaborations with Brian Jackson, intense fusions of jazz, blues and soul are famed for their lyrics that bravely exposed political issues through rap vocals…cool eh?

With thousands of tributes bringing Soundcloud to its knees and beyond overload, even Kanye West and Thom Yorke are joining in the uploading frenzy to pay their respects to the late ‘Godfather of rap’.

Paris-based vocalist Sandra Nkaké and her friends have cleverly crafted a song called ‘A Place For You’. Based on Gil’s ‘Inner City Blues’ and remixed by MdCL, the track nails his style of music to a T.

So, ladies and gentlemen, in light of his recent passing, we present to you this tribute to the shining jewel of soul and the Shakespeare of Jazz poetry. Brother, you live on.
