The Brute Chorus: Love In An Ambulance

The Brute Chorus are back with a new single ‘Could This Be Love’ off their upcoming album How The Caged Bird Sings. And no, it’s not a Bob Marley cover.

Hot on the trail of their eponymous debut last October, the new album was recorded in freezing conditions in a remote village hall earlier this year. An imposing slab of beat poetry set to a galloping rockabilly rumble, the song is related from the point of view of a man who, in his mind, is on his way to meet his girlfriend as his body races through the night in an ambulance and his spirit approaches the light. Pretty grim stuff but understandably so since the band has always written about depressing subjects and gutter-living.

The inspiration for this particular single came during a trip to the Accident & Emergency department of Lewisham hospital after drummer Matt Day was assaulted on the way home from a party. Months later the song was set to music and fast became a live favourite among fans of the band who attended their shows during their tours last year. Remember… safety first, kids!
