The Best of 2011
Looking something like the fevered nightmare of David Lynch as heightened by the mind of Takashi Miike, ‘1234’ is not only visually spectacular, but conceptually as well. We bet Spaceboy Studios is having a field day laughing at the comments on YouTube discussing the symbolism and hidden messages behind the visuals.
Fresh off their successful city anthem with glam popster Ze! and Altimet. Goldfish & Blink switches gear with ‘Bila Seharusnya’. While not technically gifted in the vocals department, Noh has a compelling voice that is easy to the ears, you can’t help but fall a bit in love with the sweet nothings he croons on the track. This combined with an electro-disco beat that is reminiscent of a dancier Hujan number (had it been produced by DJs) makes for an annoying infectious tune, but hey we love catch. And clearly you love it too!
From his progressive house years, through to breakbeat and on to 2011 it was clear that Blink was one to watch. Not only has he evolved musically, through the years Blink evolved through his aesthetic style as well. We first took notice of him during the crazy days of Lapsap and we haven’t stopped admiring since. The readers have spoken! It proves that we aren’t the only ones that love his preppy style! Keep on looking dapper, Blink. We tip our hat to the style and career choices you’ve made thus far.
The Wknd has been the sole independent purveyor of Malaysia’s music scene. Run voluntarily by a team of people from the scene itself, The Wknd not only covers music news, but they are also here to capture these often time transient music acts in video form. Called The Wknd Sessions, their video series is already at its 45th iteration now. Check them out at the-wknd.com.
We heard hearsay that JUICE’s own WordsManifest was something of a Twitter God, such notion amused us. So much so we decided to nominate him in jest… little did we know he IS an internet deity. Reading WordsManifest’s cantankerous caustic old man tweets made it clear to us why homie has so many followers on Twitter, he’s funny in the same way your favourite dead or retired stand-ups are.
With a multitude of controversies post-event, from rockstar misbehaviour and boobs flashing, it’s easy to see why Rockaway is the most talked about event of 2011.
