Art, Activism and Rock ‘n Roll at Ilham Gallery With Taring Padi
This edition of Ilham Gallery’s Artist Talk will be with Indonesia’s community of underground artists; Taring Padi. To the uninitiated, Taring Padi was established in 1998 after the end of former President Suharto’s three-decade long governance. The group’s main purpose was to use art as its tool to educate the Indonesian public on social, political, and economic issues. The focus for this weekend’s Artist Talk is for Taring Padi’s reps — Mohamad Yusuf and Yunanto Setio Broto — to elaborate on the history and development of the collective.
Aside from having a conversation with individuals that helped shape one aspect of the art community in Yogyakarta, there will also be a screening of Taring Padi’s film entitled Art, Activism and Rock ‘n Roll amongst other activities. Admission is free, however, seats are reserved on a first come first served basis.
