Talib Kweli: Gutter Rainbows (Blacksmith)
Talib Kweli is just where he’s at, comfortably ensconced as one of indie rap’s biggies. Gutter Rainbows is his serve-out of the independent vs. commercial industry volleying that plagues rappers baited with the gangsta bling life.
Concessions do come in the form of ‘Mr. International’, but mainly the man’s stuck to his guns in the way he rolls lyrically and sonically. Call it old school, classic or even stagnant, but the boom bap rap sound of Talib still kicks it on ‘I’m On One’, ‘Uh Oh’ and ‘How You Love Me’.
