Super Furry Animals’ Gruff Rhys Coming to KL!
The frontman of legendary Welsh alt rock band Super Furry Animals, Gruff Rhys will be down in KL for a very special gig on 6 May. More good news this Friday!
If you were a music hungry teen during the 90s, you’d have most likely discovered Gruff (don’t you just love his name!) through his band’s many quirky indie hits such as ‘God! Show Me Magic’, ‘Something 4 The Weekend’ and ‘Juxtapozed with U’. Together with fellow countrymen, The Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals put Wales on the map for modern music and added a lighter, more edgier flavour to the Brit rock scene of that decade.
Fast forward about 20 years later, SFA have released their 9th studio album Dark Days/Light Years to vivacious reviews (The Guardian said that “it has more spark and invention than most teen bands manage on their debuts.”)
With his 3rd solo album Hotel Shampoo released earlier this year and collaborations in recent years with A-list names like Gorillaz, Simian Mobile Disco, Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse (Dark Night of the Soul), and De La Soul, Gruff shows no sign of slowing down.
So do checkout the bearded guy with a voice of gold when he performs at MAP KL, Solaris Dutamas on Friday 6 May 2011. He will be playing solo with a few noise making devices; telling stories, jokes and bringing toys on stage to give us a funny and eccentric night with great tunes. Gruff will also be taking part in an exclusive clinic session where he will be talking about his life as working musician as well as the art of adventurous music making. Wow!
Oh boy oh boy! Gruff Rhys, Mono and Deadmau5 all in one week! Thanks to 33rpm (the best show on BFM!) for bringing Gruff down! Both 33rpm VOX pres. Gruff Rhys (the concert) and 33rpm VOX.talk (Gruff’s clinic) will happen on Friday 6 May 2011. For more info, head to the events’ Facebook page. More Gruff at www.gruffrhys.com.
