Hip hop is taking on a new spin. From The Roots partnering up with Joanna Newsom to Kanye West collaborating with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, it seems that the thing to do now is take a hip hop artist and put them in the same room with an indie folk artist and let them do their thing. So far, the products of such a relationship have been interesting, to say the least.

Most recently, Anticon artists Son Lux and rapper Serengeti have teamed up with Detroit-born folk powerhouse, Sufjan Stevens. Eight years ago, it would have been difficult to picture Sufjan Stevens having anything to do with the abstract rap label, and even now it’s a little bit strange, but it’s happening! The trio, known as s / s / s, will be releasing a 4-track EP called Beak & Claw on 20 March via Anticon. We’ve got the tracklist right here:

1. Museum Day
2. Beyond Any Doubt
3. If This Is Real
4. Octomom

Sufjan and Serengeti met in 2009, during the time they worked together on Buck 65’s remix of Sufjan’s cover of Castanet’s ‘You Are The Blood’ for the benefit compilation Dark Was The Night. What can we expect? We have absolutely no clue, but we’re hoping for the best!
