Subtle Eggsian Dating: JUICE Joins A Match Making Show Created By Local Twitch Streamer Kate Lam

Are you tired of dating apps, couples being cute on Instagram, or just generally looking for a new way to find The One? Well, I might’ve just stumbled upon a (possible) solution.

Local Twitch streamer Kate, or @iamafriedegg, started out on the live streaming platform earlier this year and usually plays Apex Legends. But recently she’s been diving into more interactive content.

The 29-year-old kicked off Subtle Eggsian Dating (SED) when she and her viewers were looking at the infamous Facebook page, Subtle Asian Dating (SAD).

JUICE had the lovely pleasure of interviewing Kate on her new endeavour as well as participate in it ourselves. Here’s how it all went down…

What is Subtle Eggsian Dating?

“I wanted to replicate [SAD] to be a little closer to home, for those who may be a bit more shy to put ourselves out there, us gamers and streamers.”

Kate added that it creates a familiar environment to get to know unfamiliar faces, hence making it safer and more approachable.

“With a mutual interest in games or streams, this incredibly large pool of beautiful singles will be able to connect more naturally with one another, on and off stream, in game and out of game!”

The idea actually started out as a joke, as Kate had been doing some work on Powerpoint and some viewers in chat prompted her to put up her details on a mock-up slide of her dating profile.

One thing led to another and today there are over 50 contestants and streamer profiles on the Powerpoint slide, with more incoming.

During her SED streams, she goes through the slides to show profiles of the contestants, letting those interested to “target” potential partners through gauging the chemistry between the contestants in the chat.

“Our community will be streaming various dating and relationship related streams just to take full opportunity of having a fun theme to follow; like a refreshing change from our usual gaming streams.”

In terms of growth, SED has actually gotten sponsorships from recognisable names like Prodigy Chairs, a gaming chair brand, and Nitro Tech, a computer store.

Since starting Twitch, Kate’s gained over 1.6k followers and currently has over a thousand active subscribers. Needless to say, SED’s got a lot of people hooked.

Kate also chimed-in on the help she got from other streamers who were also part of the organising process.

“I’ve had amazing help from a few beautiful streamers, Bryan, who designed everything after seeing my ugly slides, Xueer and Moosh, who’ve just been extremely helpful and supportive.”

Though it’s technically a match making show, the Twitch community is really just all about making connections in a safe and supportive environment while producing wholesome content.

“My personal goal is to see a couple or two actually fall in love through SED,” expressed Kate.

“I also hope that smaller streamers like myself would see a growth in views through this tiny bit of exposure and for us to make new friends in the gaming community.”

Having high hopes, Kate said, “We hope that the hype and interest in SED continues to grow and we’d love to see a SED season 2 or community come out from this!”

My experience on Subtle Eggsian Dating

As for my personal experience, I got roped into Kate’s stream when a friend of mine mentioned SED in a passing conversation. He pushed me to submit my profile for the laughs, not expecting anything out of it, but I found myself pleasantly surprised.

In the short span of 4 days, I’ve made new friends, reconnected with old ones, and even hopped onto my friend’s stream to “review” the contestants to see who I’d “target”.

And as for love interests, I guess you’ll just have to stay tuned and find out. Let’s just say I’ve got my eye on a few bachelors from the show…
