Bridging the gap between world music and modern dance are an unlikely duo from Jakarta. Ojon and Aryo are electronic musicians who made their name as Space System in South Jakarta’s Rossi Fatmawati liberal acts community.

The illusive duo did their best to avoid the public eye, possibly to focus on their music and keep it pure. But alas, even Scottish electro supremo Mylo has included their track ‘Sorrow Show’ on his mix CD for Mixmag. Unlike most Indonesian bands, Space System show off through their experimentation rather than attitude. While this may make them come across as serious musicians-types, their aptly-titled debut album Nature is accessible and soothing. Marrying electronic ambience, glitches and sexy beats with organic examples, Gamelan chimes and chanting, Nature is dark, beautiful and definitely a masterpiece of Eastern electronica.
