Slash Live in KL @ Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach
The former lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, Slash, is on a world tour to promote his self-titled debut solo album together with Alter Bridge vocalist Myles Kennedy, guitarist extraordinaire Bobby Schneck, Todd Kerns of Sin City Sinners on the bass and former drummer of Seventh Heaven, Brent Fitz. The legendary guitarist chose to play KL and fans totally Slash-ed out to his awesome live performance. If there’s a time when I want to end every sentence in a report with an exclamation, this is it. It was crazy! It was legendary! It was SLASH!
Presented by Malaysian Airline System (MAS) subsidiary Firefly, this concert blew our minds away with Slash’s fantastic solos paired with Myles Kennedy awesome vocals who seems utterly at ease pulling off high pitches; definitely one of the best singers out there!
Fanatics of all ages arrived early, all dressed in black and anxiously awaits for the gate to open. Sadly, there were some drama and complications for the media and we were not allowed to enter even when the show had already started. Another disappointment follows when opening act Blister had already started playing a few songs before the audience were all let in. They came a long way competing for the 1st place in Bintang Rock Hot FM and deserved more than just half of the crowd with some of us still slowly getting in.
The show was saw radio DJs Phat Fabes from Fly FM and Leya from Hot FM as hosts. Without much delay, our very own Malaysian rock legend Amy Search hit the stage and lifted the crowd’s spirits higher. Amy gave it his all on his last song, ‘Isabella’ and got the crowd raising their hands high and sang along before he blasted ‘Pawana’ halfway through. That got everyone pumped up for what’s coming up next. The background banner was revealed and the crowd chanted, “We want Slash! We want Slash!”.
Then, Slash finally made his grand entry! Myles headed straight for his mic and the crowd went completely insane. Slash’s first solo for the night got everyone jumping and throwing up their metal fists in the air. The all-star league rocked songs like ‘Back To Cali’, ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ and an extended version of ‘Paradise City’ in which Slash shredded his longest solo for the night together with Bobby. A drum solo by Brent impressed the crowd which went on for almost 10 minutes. Lighters and hands up waving when Myles belted out ‘Starlight’, the first song he recorded with Slash. When ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ came on, the crowd went hysterical! We had goosebumps!
Slash had even make a solo putting his guitar on the back of his neck! When he spoke into the mic our hearts stopped a beat. “You guys are f*cking awesome, I love you guys“, he said. The whole gang went off stage but the crowd screamed and shouted for more, and so they came back on stage for 2 more encores. Too bad they didn’t perform ‘Godfather’ though. And rumour has it that he always ends with ‘November Rain’. I wonder why he didn’t this time? Sob. Despite all that Slash and his tour band mates have pulled off an unbelievable performance.
Slash shreds his way through Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach on 5 August 2010. Rock n roll into his official website at slash.ultimate-guitar.com and his MySpace page at myspace.com/slash. More pics here.
