Private club chic for the bookish…
The sexy oriental theme designed by Wondermilk has been swept aside. Sino, the bar to Alexis’s all day dining restaurant, now resembles a cross between a sexy modern gentleman’s club and the chic private library of a designer. The inclusion of a skylight lifts the ambience and prevents the rich, dark coloured interior from descending into the realms of stiff. Like its Alexis Great Eastern Mall compatriot, come here for the wine and jazz music, which is live every first Monday of the month. Just forget about curling up with a drink and a good book though, despite the rows of tomes, they’re designed not to be read.

Clientele Upwardly mobile types and the posh set.

Music policy Jazz, swing jazz and lounge, the music is classy but always forward thinking. Emulating the success of its (Alexis) Great Eastern Mall outlet, there are live jazz performances from local scene stalwarts and occasionally invited international guests every first Monday of the month.

Drinks Sino has a considerable drinks menu, a large part of which is devoted to wines. Tiger beer is served at RM14/bottle, cocktails and mocktails are approximately RM25, and champagne cocktails are RM35. For the teetotal, the juices are made fresh and without added sugar (RM11.50).

Happy hour None at all.

Eats Food comes from Alexis downstairs, which has reliably provided Bangsar with a selection of excellently prepared but selective mix of local, Asian and global fare. The tapas (RM16-RM18) and thin crust, oven-made pizzas (RM25-RM38) work best with a glass, while sweet tooths will find the cakes irresistible.

Door policy No cover charge but you need to be 18 years and above to enter.

Dresscode Strictly no slippers or shorts.

Open Weekdays: 6pm-1am; Weekends: 5pm-2am, although if it’s a slow night, it has been known to close earlier.

Parking If you can’t find a parking along Jalan Telawi, you can always opt for basement parking at Bangsar Village II at RM1.50 for the first hour and RM1.50 for every subsequent hour from Mondays to Saturdays. Sundays it’s RM3 for the first hour and RM1.50 every subsequent hour.
