Some folks take a hella long time to get ready. But after a heavily anticipated wait, French beauty retailer Sephora finally and officially opened its flagship store in KL, joining the other 1000 stores across 25 other countries already in existence. Was it worth the wait? We were there to find out.

Although it had thrown open its doors to shoppers at the weekend and JUICE and Hanger had heard rumours of fans drop some serious dollar there, Sephora officially opened yesterday (May 4). As early as 6.30pm, guests were split into two factions and ushered into Ben’s (the beauty industry) and Al-Amar (mdeia and celebrities) to be regaled with food, drink, speeches and fianlly watch the fireworks from the balconies above the Pavilion hordes below.

It was off to the “diamond” to check the merchandise after that. Dancing on Starhill Gallery’s Bintang Walk
was promised and delivered, with yet more dancing inside as guests ate, drank and made merry with Sephora staff, among them Mizz Nina, Yuna and Fauziah Latiff.

The 2-storey beauty emporium covers close to 10,000 square feet and carries a mix of classic, cult and emerging beauty, makeup and fragrance brands, among them, the previously unavailable in Malaysia, Urban Decay, Amazing Cosmetics, Urban Decay, Bare Minerals, Earth Organics, Korres, Soap + Glory, Ole Henriksen, Clarisonic, Mario Badescu, Boscia and Sephora’s own in-house brand.

Admittedly I didn’t spot my curent addiction, Viktor + Rolf’s Flowerbomb fragrance (good thing I picked it up at KLIA then) and way too many people mentioned the obvious absence of NARS. However Sephora, which incidentally takes after the Greek word for beauty “Sephos” and “Zipporah” the allegedly stunning wife of Moses (ye of prophet fame) has promised they will be introducing new brands, while upstairs facial teatments and special retail experiences are in the works for the second level (for the time being this looks to be with Japanese band SKII).

Sephora was founded in 1993 in France and was acquired by LVMH in 1997. be a fan by searching Sephora Malaysia on Facebook. More at www.sephora.com.
