WATCH: Paramount Releases Teaser Trailer For Scream VI, Which is Coming in 2023
“Do you like scary movies?”
If you said yes to the question above or know where that quote originates from, shoutouts to you ya lil’ movie buff. This iconic phrase was uttered in the legendary 1996 horror/slasher film, Scream.
When a horror movie becomes a hit, somehow they always end up becoming franchises (Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street etc.) spawning both God-awful sequels and/or surprise masterpieces.
Personally, I enjoy the Scream movies (the first one in particular) but wouldn’t say I’m the biggest fan of the franchise. However, I am intrigued by the lore of the Scream universe and if you feel the same way, boy are you in for a treat!
Paramount has just released the teaser trailer for the next addition of the Scream franchise, aptly called Scream VI (that’s 6 in roman numerals for you slow types).
According to Bloody Disgusting, Scream VI will see the movie’s main baddie, Ghostface, roaming the streets of New York City to toy with (and most definitely kill) his next set of victims.
Additionally, the movie’s timeline will take place during Halloween which would be a perfect setting for a ghoulish serial killer to do his thing easily what with everybody dressed in scary costumes.
In the photo above, you’d be able to see people dressed up as various horror icons like the person in the far right sporting a Jason mask from the Friday the 13th movies and Pinhead from Hellraiser situated right behind ol’ Ghostface.
As for Scream VI‘s cast, horror fans both young and old will probably rejoice at the fact that Courtney Cox will be reprising her role of Gale Weathers with the addition of breakout actor, Jenna Ortega from the series ‘Wednesday’ on Netflix who can be seen in the trailer.
On a sadder note, Neve Campbell who portrayed the badass protagonist, Sidney Campbell since the first Scream movie, will not be returning for Scream VI allegedly due to pay disputes.
David Arquette who played Officer Dewey Riley also won’t make an appearance but seems to be at peace with that fact stating:
“I know, it was really sweet to see the reaction of the fans. It was hard. It was a project I really loved being part of. They went off to do number six and I was like, ‘Oh, okay…’ [Laughs] It’s hard. It’s something that’s really close to my heart, but I love how they handled it.”
Either way, as a fan of horror movies I’m definitely looking forward to watch this flick.
