Scissor Sisters: Magic Hour
FIZZLED MAGIC
We’ve been huge fans of the Sisters since their all-killer self titled debut album came out back in ’04. Since then, the JUICE office will subconsciously turn into a giant pride parade with every release that could last for weeks. But this year’s release of their fourth album Magic Hour saw our men holding on to their inhibitions, which in our opinion, makes this album a letdown that failed to live up to its name.
Granted, ‘Only the Horses’ is quite the repeatable tune, but that’s as good as it gets on this album. And we can’t imagine it as a Scissor Sisters staple, considering it doesn’t even compare to some of the most average songs on their past albums.
The situation is not dissimilar to their second album Ta-Dah but at least that record had the Elton John accompanied ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancin” that easily carried the entire album on its shoulders. Plus, they made up for that with their next release, Night Work. It seems like they’re alternating their hit and misses, so you’d probably want to skip this one and look forward to their next album.
