The Only Exception? Saudi Arabia Bending Marriage Laws For Cristiano Ronaldo and His Partner
After his departure from British football club Manchester United, it was announced that Cristiano Ronaldo signed with Saudi Arabian football club, Al-Nassr.
The contract is valid until June 2025 and Ronaldo’s total salary will reportedly be close to $200 million USD (MYR 875 million).
Normally, Saudi Arabia forbids unmarried couples to cohabit – however, they are willing to make an exception for Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodríguez.
According to EFE, Spanish news agency, the government of Saudi Arabia will reportedly turn a blind eye from the two, given Ronaldo’s status as one of the world’s most marketable athletes.
“Although laws still prohibit cohabitation without a marriage contract, the authorities have begun to turn a blind eye and do not persecute anyone. Of course, these laws are used when there is a problem or a crime,” a lawyer stated in the report.
However, neither Saudi Arabia nor Ronaldo have released an official statement regarding this matter.
Ronaldo and Rodríguez have been together since 2017 and are raising five children together.
