Rockin’ for Orangutans
In conjunction with Earth Week, school teachers from The International School Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), musicians and non-governmental organisation (NGO) representatives gathered on 17 to 25 April for one reason. The event Rockin’ for the Environment was aimed at creating awareness for the Orang Utan Appeal UK, which is the only registered charity authorised to raise funds for the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Sabah.
The ISKL expat school teachers, who came together and called themselves Benchmarx, joined forces for the first time with marketing communication company Go International Group and its community project Doppelganger KL Open Mic for this event. Of course JUICE knew this in advance and expected something quite out of the ordinary, different from the regular boring ol’ fundraising snorefests. Kudos to Benchmarx!
At the end of the event held at SohoKL, Rockin’ for the Environment raised over RM21,000 for orangutans! Pop Shuvit, Yuna, Ida Lisa, Wani Ardy, Peter Brown, Markisa, George Wong and more artistes and bands, showed their support through performances on the 3 separate days. Six ISKL school bands also joined in the fun and performed as well.
The money raised from the event will go to the sponsorship of a junior veterinarian programme to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and equipment for the Appeal’s ‘Post-Release Orangutan Monitoring Project’ in Tabin, which is a protected rainforest reserve.
Bless.
