Rockaway 2011 Press Conference
The day before Malaysia’s biggest rock festival took place at Carpark A, Bukit Jalil National Stadium, JUICE attended the Rockaway 2011 press conference, which was organized by Livescape Asia together with One Buck Short and Friends. Needless to say, it was one of the most entertaining press conferences that we have had the pleasure of attending in a long while.
Held in Palace of the Golden Horses, the press conference was hosted by Hitz FM DJ Ian. After Livescape Asia’s representative and Rahul of One Buck Short gave their respective speeches of Rockaway 2011, the attendees were treated with several teaser videos of the event.
As the members of rock band The Used entered the room, they were greeted with applause and cheers from both media representatives and some of the bands that were scheduled to play at this year’s Rockaway Festival, including Tres Empre, One Buck Short, and Kyoto Protocol. Bert McCracken, and Quinn Allman took audiences by surprise as they played an acoustic version of ‘Tunnel’ while Jepha Howard, and Dan Whitesides took their seats with Rahul and enjoyed the performance with everyone.
Throughout the press conference, Bert entertained the attendees with his campy humour and unexpected gestures (like kicking off his shoes and sitting cross-legged on the stool). When asked whether the band has learnt any Malay words, Bert immediately responded with “P*****k”, sending everyone into fits of laughter and mortifying Rahul at the same time.
After the press conference ended, selected members of the media had the opportunity to personally interview the band as well as photo opportunities. Judging by the positive reception at both the press conference and actual event on 8 October 2011, Rockaway might be Malaysia’s version of Big Day Out!
Organized by Livescape Asia and One Buck Short and Friends, Rockaway 2011 was held at Carpark A, Bukit Jalil National Stadium on 8 October 2011. For more updates, visit www.rockawayfest.com.
