4.4 kilometres is a long way to walk but I am a die hard fan of architecture. So before the action got underway between Lewis Hamilton and Thierry Henry on the urban assault course Reebok had contructed for the Reebok ZigTech trainers launch, I had just enough time to grab brekkie downstairs at Charles Abellan’s Bravo restaurant in the W and make a dash along the beachfront across the boardwalks past the nudist beaches (a nude old bloke sigting is guaranteed here everyday) to Edifici Forum.

Designed by Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron who also put their designs on Prada Tokyo, Beijing’s “bird’s nest” National Stadium and Munich’s Allianz Arena, not only does the Edifici Forum appear to be made out of blue rubber, from some angles the the giant triangle appears to be floating in mid-air, like that giant spaceship that first looms into view in the very first scene fo Star Wars Episode 4.

The building is part of the sprawling El Forum and Diagonal Mar development under way in the northeast part of the city –  a stunning mass of hotels, expensive apartments, shopping malls and modernist park spaces.

Coming up next from Herzog & de Meuron is the Tate Modern 2 due for completion in 2012, which you can see here.
